About Us
Safeguarding
The safety and wellbeing of every student is our first priority, on campus and beyond.
Our commitment
John Wheatley College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students, and expects every member of staff, contractor and placement partner to share this commitment. This applies equally to our international students, many of whom are living independently in the UK for the first time.
Our designated safeguarding team
Every student has access to a trained Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and a wider safeguarding team available during term time. Reports can be made confidentially in person, by email, or through the student portal.
What we cover
- Protection from harassment, discrimination, and abuse of any kind
- Support for students experiencing mental health difficulties
- Guidance on staying safe in Glasgow, including accommodation and personal safety
- Protection from exploitation, including in placement and part-time work settings
- Concerns relating to radicalisation, in line with the Prevent duty
How to raise a concern
If you are worried about yourself or another student, contact our safeguarding team immediately. In an emergency, always contact the emergency services on 999 first.
